this article talks about the opportunities opening up for india as the multi fiber agreement comes to a close. conventional wisdom is that china will be the biggest beneficiary and that eg. bangladesh and pakistan will lose out. it is possible that india can also benefit, and the article talks about the steps needed to get there.

on the other hand, if the pak and bangla textile industries collapse, as kanchan gupta suggests elsewhere, that will add to the challenges facing india: more unemployed hands for jihad in pakistan, and more illegal immigrants from bangladesh.
