sept 13th, 2006

not surprisingly, the king of the atlanticists, the voice of NATO, is down on india's prospects.

A three part series by Arun Shourie ( 1, 2 , 3 )on the importance of having institutions like the IIT's and protecting them from the likes of 'Durjan' Singh - bang on target as usual.
Notice the sprinkling of the strategic mindset in a thing as mundane as India's education debate

Is this really so surprising -- mutual mistrust of Atlanticists notwithstanding?

Look at the recent past
1. No movement on the economic front -- no reforms in energy, roads, telecom, water, urban development

2. Rising marxist and mohammedan terrorism -- from naxals and from internal and external "radicals"

3. A consuming passion to further vivisect india on community lines-- now in schools!

Only Gujarat it seems is going somewhere. Heard from corp investment circles that "only Narendra Modi" is doing anything about development.

But alas, he's hindu, so his achievements do not count.
