Vice President of India using Al Qaeda language to criticise US

No one can be faulted for confusing these statements with rhetoric emanating from Al Qaeda propagandists. This Mohammedan former diplomat is espousing virtually the same ideas as Ahmadnejad and Ayman Al Zawahiri. This is a new extreme in the UPA's policy oscillation - between Manmohan's obedient servitude to the U.S and Sitaram Yechury's blind hatred of all things American.

Ansari has Ahamed for company

Pranab Mukherjee's deputy, Mr E Ahamed, who described Mr Ansari's statement that "US policies in Iraq were giving an impetus to terrorism," as "very good" went to the extent of claiming that the vice-president's view is in line with that of the government.
Mr Ahamed's backing for Mr Ansari came even as his ministry was trying desperately dispel the impression that the vice-president's viewpoint has official sanction. "He made this speech at an academic conference. And he was only expressing his personal opinion," officials in the external affairs ministry said.

Although this explanation is unlikely to wash, Mr Ahamed's stand must be more discomforting for the UPA government. The government considers the US as a valuable ally and has been defending its engagement with Washington on strategic issues.
