The Extraordinary Rendition of KP

Here's a good article from journalist DBS Jeyaraj on the circumstances surrounding the capture of notorious LTTE arms dealer 'KP', who was recently declared Prabhakaran's successor by some factions within LTTE.

It's actually a good thing that China went in for backing Colombo instead of the Eelamists, since doing the latter could have created an entrenched fanatical mini-republic on our southern border, capable of fomenting unrest in India, a la PakTalib Baitullah Mehsud. We would have been suffering Swat Valleys all over Tamil Nadu as a result. Colombo at least has a shared interest with us in mutually preserving our respective territorial integrities, which can naturally limit any mischief or misadventurism.

well.. San....
there (were)are so many nuanced ways of handling the Sri Lankan issue rather than the current means of giving Chinese a foothold in SL..
Letting them Have a base in Indian Ocean is a huggggge strategic price to pay for the inability to quieten the loud mouth, LTTE supporting types in TN..

DO u think China will be twiddinling its thumbs if India were to have a base in Taiwan.. hell no!!

Indians have lost and are losing their strategic influence in their own backyard.. and surprisngly u seem 2 b supporting it...

I'm not supporting their involvement, I'm saying it's a good thing their involvement didn't lean towards backing the Eelamists, which is what I would have done if I was a Chinese trying to break up India. THeir backing of Colombo was the less harmful choice as compared to if they'd backed LTTE.
