johann hari: just des(s)ert for arab imperialism

one cannot even call it a banana republic - banana's need water to grow.

the cactus republic of dubai is being shown up for what it truly is - an ugly monstrosity built on the bones and carcasses of the dispossessed. never heard a peep out of the left-stalinists in India for this slavery

it is posible that Abu Dhabi will give a bail-out, but too bad for the kerala remmitance economy. too bad also for amartya rothschild's 'kerala model'.

If you are to believe Johan Hari completely, the imported labour in Dubai, including Indians, is being paid poverty-wages, and are living and working in utter penury. At the same time, other reports (e.g. Dubai cries but state gets a reason to smile DNA India, 28 Nov 09) say: “Indians make up 40% of the UAE's population, and Indians in Dubai account for 10-12% of the annual remittances to India. ... The Kerala government is [...] concerned. About 4.5 million Indians live and work in the Gulf region and remit more than $10 billion annually, according to government data.”
How can they send home so much money if they don't get much to begin with?
Also, the latest news I see on TV is that Abu Dhabi has refused a total bail-out, but will be very selective. There is something very fishy in the whole affair.
