the ELM does not care about viswanathan anand's feats

may 14th, 2010

but the wall street journal did.

this darn cricket is an octopus, draining the lifeblood out of all other sports in india.

if india were to ban cricket for 5 years, the indian economy would soar, and the amount of black money in circulation would diminish by 50%

That's not true. Hindu has been covering Anand since the early 80S. Chess is considered a sport by the Indian media. Most other countries do not consider it a sport. Anand's victory got a ton of press in India. Every major newspaper ran several articles on it, and there were interviews on it. And this bashing of cricket is just the Indian crab at work ... A ton of govt money has been wasted on other sports over the years. The other sports have failed to do anything in decades now. The few sports where there has been some successes have been fringe sports. Ultimately the public cares about cricket, because it has had at least some success from time to time and because the administration, terrible as it, has tried to make it more people friendly to an extent no other sports administration has.
