Personality Cult Spits on Narasimha Rao

The Kaangress personality cult closes ranks and spits in unison on PV Narasimha Rao:

PVNR was the best PM after Vajpayee, in my opinion. Sure, Rao wasn't perfect, but not due to the fake allegations made by Mani Shankar Aiyar.

What a vile little toady he is - really makes my skin crawl.

Rao was a better prime minister than vajpayee (dont get me wrong i liked atal b); rao accomplished more with his minority government (and his own party baying for his blood) than vajpayee ever could

i think rao knew he was in it for only one term - and that oddly freed him up to do what was right

i also think the rao was the best writer-intellectual ever to occupy the chair (not that it took a lot of doing with the likes of jawaharlal to compete with). i have read his classic autobiography 'the insider' many times - it is as rich as a russian novel and as detailed as any piece of long-essay journalism

I agree that Vajpayee was a bit of babbling poet at times, unlike the quiet Sphinx-like Rao. But at least Vajpayee and Advani did Pokhran-2, whereas Rao failed to do this following the French nuclear test.

When PVNR became the PM, Indian economy was in a precarious situation. He took some visionary and bold steps and unshakled the License Raj. In spite of the extrmely difficult economic situation he did not compromise national security unlike Moron M Singh. History will judge him kindly unlike the Nehru Dynasty Scion Rajiv or even Indira/Vajpayee.

I hope people of AP throw the rascals(Congress) out in the next elections.

Mani Shankar iyer, he is truly insufferable. That nasty people like Mani iyer, Manish Tewari are congressi spokesmen tell what kind of people the Congress I (islami isai) is made of - nasty, lying, crooks.

I remember,in particular, M.L.Fotedar saying on Rajat Sharma's program,"Please forgive me for proposing PVNR as PM"! Sharma comented "But you hold no rank or office within the congress!" Funny Shankar Iyer was actually praised by PVNR-- "He is my voice"!, he once commented, famously. After resolutely sucking up for decades, PVNR's detractors are still nowhere and will never have public respect.

@san

Per raj chengappa (who supposedly wrote the authoritative version of events) - rao was ready for the explosion but was told that the Indian economy could not have sustained the sanctions in 1996 - that may be right.

the reason I really liked rao was that he kept the she-hyena and kingini-kuttan at bay quite deftly. he also undid to a large extent the nehruvian legacy of planned pauppery (for which credit is unduly given to manmohan). finally - he opened up the relationship with israel and singapore (which is an interesting tale - sunanda dutta ray wrote a book on it)

i have to agree with ghostwriter. vajpayee was too concerned about what the p-sec fundies thought of him -- an example was how he was bulldozed into the kandahar debacle by, for instance, brinda karat chivvying on the families of the hostages to scream and shout and demand caving in. also, vajpayee was a bit of a nehruvian.

rao, on the other hand, was by far the best PM india had. conversely, manmohan is the worst, even worse than jawaharlal, which takes some doing.

Alright, fair enough guys - Rao it is. Haha, maybe you need to hold a poll.

Unfortunately, he was short on the charisma side, although his quietness masked his cleverness.

It was Chidambaram who did him in, along with Ghulam Nabi Azad. No wonder Chidambaram has ended up as Sonia's Cheney, while Azad is her Karl Rove.
