This program loses its sheen, once you read or reread this article on the credentials of the IRRI to conduct rice research.

This article, by Claude Alvares, first appeared in The Illustrated Weekly of India in 1986, and I end up bawling uncontrollably everytime I read it.

Would Rice production across India, and perhaps the world, have taken a different, better path, if Dr. Richharia had been in charge of Rice research, instead of Dr.Swaminathan, and the IRRI?
